Getting to know Mr. Akiona
Dear Parent/ Guardians and Students,
The 2020-2021 school year presents many new challenges and will be unlike any year prior, but we are very excited about the promise that this year holds as well! Education provides not only the foundation of a society, but also a rhythm and routine for the students who take part in it. The faculty and staff here at Michigan Avenue are committed to providing that sense of normality for our students during this unusual time.
Our commitment to excellence for every child has not changed and we still hold true to the Bradley County Schools’ District-wide mission of “Growing Students-Building Futures” . To that end, we will continue to support high expectations for the students, for the teachers, for the parents, and for the administration. Our commitment is to create an environment where students feel safe, cared-for, and academically successful. In fact, every decision that is made administratively is filtered through the following priorities:
- Does the decision increase student/faculty safety?
- Does the decision increase student care?
- Does the decision increase student academic success?
These questions are actually listed in the order of importance, because I feel strongly that in order for students to succeed academically, they must first feel safe and cared-for.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself with the information in the handbook. There are several changes in regards to our safety protocols concerning the current pandemic. If you should have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me at any time.
Thank you for your help and support as we strive for the best for all of our students! Let’s have a Great Year!
Mr. Nathaniel Akiona
